Secret of Heathcote Manor is available from Amazon, and all good bookshops around the world. If you enjoy historical mysteries, this might just be the book for you.

Sandra Rathbone, author of the Skelee Boy series wrote: "What a wonderful, historically rich novel. This book was a detailed ride into England’s conflict between the Royalists and the Roundheads during the turbulent reign of King Charles the I. I highly recommend this book as an introduction into England’s conflicted history and civil wars as told from the eyes of a young boy. The fantasy element adds to the enjoyment and magic of a well-crafted story."

What another reader wrote about Secret of Heathcote Manor: There's something instantly alive about Secret of Heathcote Manor. The story doesn't just whisper mystery, it carries the quiet ache of family, courage, and discovery. From the moment Wilfie Ferrers follows that ghostly clue, it's clear this isn't only a children's adventure. It's a tender exploration of love, loss and what one will risk to heal the heart of someone they care for.

What one reader thought about Secret of Heathcote Manor: "Secret of Heathcote Manor beautifully captures the wonder of discovery and the courage that defines great adventure stories. Wilfie’s journey from a single ghostly clue to a life-changing revelation feels rich with atmosphere and emotional depth. The blend of mystery, history, and the quiet power of love makes this a story both clever and heartfelt, the kind that stays with readers long after the final page."

The internet can be a great source of information. It's particularly useful when researching information for a novel. Back in 2015, I was browsing the web when I came across an article about an incident which occurred in 1648 during the Second English Civil War. As I read on, an idea for a story formed in my mind. Within a few days, I had written the first few chapters, but then I put the manuscript aside for the next four years. In 2019, I decided to apply for a review on Litopia's Pop-Up Submissions, and sent off a short blurb and the first 700 words. My submission was accepted and a recording was made. On the 13th of October 2019 my submission was one of five which featured on the programme. To my delight, it won. Encouraged by this success, I decided to finish writing the tale and submitted it to a handful of literary agents in 2021. It was the first agent I approached who ultimately offered representation. A few days ago, Secret of Heathcote Manor was ranked number 34 in the Amazon chart for Military & War Historical Fiction for Young Adults. It's dropped a few places since then but is still in the top 100.

When thirteen-year-old Wilfie uncovers a mysterious family secret, he discovers more than he bargained for and faces a dilemma. Quit while he is still ahead or risk everything, including his life, to mend his mother's broken heart. His decision will alter the course of history and lead to the creation of the most famous nursery rhyme ever written.

After spending several weeks reading through the manuscript, I returned it to Shawn Reilly Simmons at Level Best Books for her to complete the Red Line Copy Edits. Hopefully one bottle of red ink will be enough.

I've just received the developmental edit back from Shawn Reilly Simmons at Level Best Books, and I'm glad to say that she is very happy with the manuscript. Once I've had time to read her comments and suggestions, I'll get to work on the revisions. Once I'm happy that I've done everything I can, I'll send the manuscript back to Shawn for her to complete her Red Line Copy Edits.
